At Sospeso we…
we seek to embody the compassionate presence of Christ by cultivating spaces of transformation, belonging, and renewal in the heart of Pomona. We honor the dignity of every person, recognizing that every person is sacred and worthy of respect, and we strive to create a community where all are welcomed without exception.
Through community-centered initiatives that nurture the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, we seek not to impose, but to witness, living out the radical love of Jesus through hospitality, solidarity, and shared life. Our work is grounded in the belief that healing and restoration often begin when people are seen, welcomed, supported, and given meaningful opportunities to flourish.
Sospeso brings together educational support for children and families, job readiness and workforce development, mental health resources, a teaching kitchen, a community thrift store, and other programs designed to address practical barriers facing underserved members of our community. To advance educational equity and economic opportunity, we provide free Wi-Fi and public-access laptops, helping community members build digital literacy and access the tools they need for employment, education, and lifelong learning.
Beginning in August 2026, Sospeso also began hosting a monthly Community Health Fair in partnership with local healthcare, educational, and community organizations. The health fair provides free health screenings and connects marginalized and underserved community members with resources that can help them navigate barriers to healthcare. Depending on individual and community needs, resources may include free groceries, hygiene kits, Metro and bus cards, health insurance assistance, and help making or accessing medical appointments. Our goal is not simply to provide resources, but to build relationships and help people experience dignity, belonging, and hope.
Sospeso is also committed to creating meaningful employment opportunities for people who have historically faced significant barriers to employment, including formerly incarcerated individuals. We believe a person's past should not define their future. In September 2026, Sospeso hired a man who had spent 24 years incarcerated, from the age of 18 to 42, and who had been unable to find meaningful employment after his release. Today, he is an integral member of the Sospeso community, contributing his skills, experience, and lived wisdom while helping others who face similar barriers. His journey reflects our belief that opportunity, dignity, and belonging can be powerful instruments of transformation.
Sospeso's Objective
Our objective is to create a welcoming community hub in Pomona where people can find practical resources, meaningful relationships, educational and employment opportunities, and pathways toward greater health and well-being. We seek to walk alongside individuals and families, particularly those who have been marginalized or underserved, and to create opportunities for people to discover their own capacity, dignity, and potential.
Through Sospeso, we bring together hospitality, education, healthcare access, workforce development, mental health support, food access, and community connection in one place. In doing so, we hope to contribute to a healthier, more connected, and more hopeful Pomona where every person knows that they are valued, honored, and belong.
